Open Defecation To be Eradicate in Ekiti By 2021

https://pariternews.blogspot.com/2019/06/open-defecation-to-be-eradicate-in.htmlIn line with President Muhammsdu Buhari’s declaration of state of emergency on open defecation in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Water Resource has promised to work with Ekiti State and other states to eradicate open defecation in the country by 2025 in compliance with the President’s directive.
The Federal Government position was made known when the Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities in Ekiti State, Bamidele Faparusi, paid a courtesy visit on the director of Water Supply and PPP, Ajisegiri Beneson, in Abuja recently.
The commissioner, who was accompanied by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Olumide Ajayi, and others, said they were at the ministry on the instruction of Governor Fayemi Kayode to seek the support of the Federal Government towards eradication of open defecation in the state by 2021.
He said, “The governor has given us a mandate to eradicate open defecation by 2021. The Federal Government’s deadline is 2025, we suggested 2022 but he said no. Now, we don’t know how we are going to achieve that without the support of your ministry. That’s why we are here to seek your support”, he said.
Responding,. Benson said the ministry was impressed with the proactive decision of the government of Ekiti State, stressing that, they had recently opened the Clean Nigeria secretariat to work with all the states towards ending open defecation.
According to him, “We wrote to President Buhari to release special funds towards this cause and we believe that the President will treat that letter very favourably because he himself has declared a state of emergency in the nation on open defecation.”
