https://pariternews.blogspot.com/2019/06/lasu-appointed-by-un-permanent-host-of.htmlThe United Nations has appointed the Lagos State University as permanent host of annual Bicycle Day celebration in Nigeria.
This is another boost to the soaring global recognition of the varsity.
In addition, no fewer than five students from the African Centre of Excellence institution will represent Nigeria at the event to hold in Singapore.
Disclosing this was Mr. Adekunle Ahmed Anrinle, a member, Governing Council of Asian African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AACCI) while speaking on the benefits of bicycle-riding during the 2019 commemoration of the World Bicycle Day at Lagos State University (LASU) campus early in the week.
He also seized the occasion to encourage Nigerians to adopt bicycle riding as their regular means of intra-city transport.
Justifying his position, the AACCI representative enumerated the health, economic and environmental benefits of adopting transportation by bicycle.
According to Anrinle, the bicycle offers a very cheap and readily accessible source of exercise for the rider; adding that the bicycle is very user-friendly In the sense that its maintenance is also pocket-friendly.
He added that bicycle, unlike the other means of transport that are motorized, does not emit any smoke, the accumulation of which has continued to pose a threat to human health via environmental pollution.
He also listed the fact that the bicycle does not make noise as an advantage over other transport means, some of which make deafening noise which is generally inimical to human health.
“When you get yourself accustomed to riding a bicycle, all the muscles of your body get charged, adequately stretched and contrived as they should be while your blood circulation remains perfect and you rarely have reasons to incur hospital biil”; Anrinle tutored.
Prof. Olumuyiwa Noah, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) who represented, the VC, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun at the event, presented cash prizes of N30,000, N20,000 and N10,000 each to the riders who returned first, second and third respectively from the round-the- campus bicycle ride.
