Federal Government Bans Boeing 737 Max planes in Nigeria’s Airspace

The federal government has banned Boeing 737 Max airplanes from flying into Nigeria’s airspace.

Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika, disclosed this to state house correspondents at the end of the federal executive council  (FEC) meeting, presided over by President Buhari on Wednesday, March 13th.

The decision to ban the aircraft from flying into Nigeria came after the last Sunday Ethiopian aircraft crash.

Sirika told state house correspondents that no airline operator in Nigeria is using the aircraft.

“Regarding Boeing 737 Max 8 and Max 9, that has been in the news recently, there is no cause for alarm as there is no operator in Nigeria that is using that type of airplane,” he said.

Recall that last Sunday March 10th, an Ethiopian airline Boeing 737 Max 8 and Max 9 aircraft, crashed killing all 157 persons on board. Two Nigerians: Pius Adesanmi, a professor, and Abiodun Bashua, an ex-diplomat, were amongst the victims of the crash.

Many countries have also banned the use of the aircraft in their countries after multiple crashes have been recorded involving this particular brand in recent times.
