Friends star Matthew Perry secretly spends THREE MONTHS stuck in hospital bed as he recovers from major surgery
Friends star Matthew Perry – who played Chandler Bing in the legendary comedy – has revealed he’s spent “three months in hospital” as he broke his silence following a major operation.
The 49-year-old American actor has been stuck in bed for months, after needing urgent medical care in August to repair a “gastrointestinal perforation."
Matthew posted to his 1.18 million Twitter followers in the early hours of Saturday morning to update his fans on his condition.
While the star didn’t confirm why he had been in the hospital, it’s believed the lengthy visit was due to the recent surgery to repair a hole in his stomach.
A representative for the Canadian-born star previously said: “Matthew Perry recently underwent surgery in a Los Angeles hospital to repair a gastrointestinal perforation.
“He is grateful for the concern and asks for continued privacy as he heals,” they added in a statement to PEOPLE magazine.
According to Healthline.com, a gastrointestinal perforation “occurs when a hole forms all the way through the stomach, large bowel, or small intestine.
Matthew, who starred alongside Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Courteney Cox for 10 seasons, has spoken openly about past health struggles.
This included battling addictions with alcohol and Vicodin which saw his weight go up and down during his time on the New York-set show.
“I couldn’t stop. Eventually things got so bad that I couldn’t hide it, and then everybody knew,” he confessed to PEOPLE in 2013.
